Reliable Programs or maybe not so...
Photostory 3 is great for beginning video creators. You can easily upload and organize photos, add music, titles and even voice overs. It is also a free download from Microsoft and I've never seen it glitch. It's true limitation is that it is for photos only, so adding video isn't going to work! | is the online video editing program I use. It has special pricing for education and you can receive their highest level package for $30 a year. It has three different editing boards to choose from depending on how technologically savvy you are & gives you choices on how to publish! This is my favourite & where the Trash Ninja videos are created. | iVideo is the go to for Apple users. If you are an Apple user, I'm sure you know your video program. I know lots of people are happy with this program! | Moviemaker is the diva of the group and not reliable. The school version lags too much and even the versions on home computers often develop glitches which makes it virtually useless! |
Music or lack of it, can make or break your video, but make sure you are following the copyright laws that guide education. Check page 11 of Copyright Matters to see if the use of music in your video breaks copyright law.
If it doesn't, make sure to credit the song and artist in your credits.
If it does check out theses copyright-free music sites:

If you create them with Powerpoint... adding images, colour and lettering... you can save each slide as a .jpeg image and upload them in your video, giving your video the exact look you want!
